If you happen to live in northern Honshu, Japan, an overnight ferry ride to this city might be your easiest entry point into the terratial titan that is Russia. Vladivostok is a blue collar burgh and home to Russia Pacific Fleet, if you are planning on 'Hunting Red October' this might be a good place to start. Closely located to both China and North Korea, and scant distance from Japan across the narrow Sea of Japan, Vladivostok is Russian for "Ruler of The East." While Asia certainly couldn't have signed off on that Russian moxie, it is safe to say that Vladivostok is the ruler of the Tran-Siberian Railroads Eastern Terminus. How's that for bragging rights?
