On the surface, South Africa doesn't even seem like Africa.  However, this is just the view from the airports, hotels and conference centers that visitors are usually exposed to. South Africa has many colorful, diverse faces. This is why its called the Rainbow Nation.

South Africa's natural beauty is unquestionable. Ecologically, it is one of the most diverse countries on earth. The Kalahari Desert, the Drakensberg Mountains, Cape Town and the Garden Route, Durban and the Indian Ocean beaches, Johannesburg with its distinctly urban street culture.

South Africa's people also reflect this diversity. Johannesburg is populated by people from just about every country in the world, there are 11 official languages that are all represented in the national anthem, and there are places like where everyone mingles.

But the reality is that it is also a country divided. Racism is still terribly apparent, the inequalities are stark, unemployment and disenfranchisement are at staggering proportions and money rules everything around you...

However, a new generation is learning to grow up in a more equitable society, legislating empowerment, demanding opportunities and learning to see beyond the color lines. It is hopeful to speak to young kids, who believe in all the ideals of the independence movement unconditionally.
