| If Ibiza were a woman instead of an island, she would play a central protagonist, her wild antics driving the plot as a catalyst for the new Almodavar film. But Ibiza is not a woman. Fortunately, for the name of women everywhere, Ibiza will not serve as a direct representative of that fair gender. As mentioned, if she could, Ibiza would play a part in Pedro's cannon of quirky feminine paeans, and what a part it would be, as a delightfully drunk prostitute rather than the angelic Mary figure. Agreeably, Ibiza is not a woman, but Ibiza is certainly a bad influence on women. It is perhaps that quality that brings so many women, and men (following the lady's night business model) to the sandy, sunny shores of the beautiful splashy Balearic island. It is perhaps indicative, that as I began to write this introduction, that the only thing listed previously referencing Ibiza, was a description of the newly completed, 20,000 square foot Miami nightclub, named, appropriately, Nocturnal. That entry explains that this club, which focused extensive energy on the lights and sound system, is as close to Ibiza's full-on clubbing as Miami is going to get. You heard it here first folks. Ibiza is the Alpha and Omega of clubbing. It makes Miami, freaking MIAMI, feel self-conscious. Ibiza, she's just that kind of girl. |
