| Geneva works like clockwork. A city known for its conventions, Geneva is far from conventional. A microcosm of Switzerland, Geneva excels at everything. The city gleams with precision quality, as an international capital, a UN branch, a modern metropole and a center of natural splendor. Spotless stainless steel railcars connect the autonomous Swiss cantons. Buses and subways glide glassily in exacting orbits, like giant facets of a cuckoo clock. The Swiss have made an industry of time and patient excellence. It is with a quiet quality that Geneva ticks along at an ordered, stately pace. The home of world-class financial institutions, luxury watchmakers, and chocolate artisans, Geneva elegantly resides at the confluence of Lake Geneva's flow into the Rhone river. It is a city full of refined craftsmanship, boasting the highest quality hotels, restaurants and shopping. It is not a budget destination, but it is a worthwhile and high-quality locale. As a city, it is consistently ranked as having the world's second highest quality of living, after Zurich. Those Swiss, can't they do anything right?

| Marcy submitted a review on 2007-01-22 22:30... I am very excited to say that I will soon live here! My husband and I just spent a week in Geneva, getting to know the city and looking for a place to live. It was fun checking out the various parts of town-- the Rue de Marche is great for shopping, as is the old part of Carouge (though this is more small boutiques, the former is more big-name shops). The areas by the right and left banks of the Lake are gorgeous, and on a clear day you can see the mountains easily. Unfortunately it does not seem that Geneva has the liveliest of nightlives. We walked around one wednesday evening searching for a bar to go to, and found nothing even near the University. Finally we ended back over at Les Brasseurs, which is right accross from the train station (next to the H&M store), in the middle of all the hotels, and it was packed!
The weather was cloudy and rainy, which can be expected all winter long apparently. However summers are supposed to be gorgeous, I very much look forward to those!
