Don't stay in Krabi Town itself, but there are some lovely coastal places in the area.  Ao Nang is a bustling resort with lots of hotels, shops and restaurants and is fun - lively without being too big or sleazy.  It's beach isn't the greatest but it's easy to go to Railey, Poda Island etc on longtails.  Not a great snorkelling area (eg compared with Phi Phi).
