| The Thai Islands are a picture-perfect island paradise. A haven of lush palm trees, gently swaying between a harmony of hammocks. It is a place of impossibly turquoise waters, of salty spritzes of lapping waves. Lounge around on fine grain beaches that make silk feel rough, lay out on sandy shores and bask in the good-life. With clear skies that bake the earth in a warming bath of light, visitors tan in tropical rays with just enough bite to produce a thin film of sweat. With temperatures rising, both day and night, cool off in the drink, dip in an ocean just wet enough to refresh, even as it envelops guests in welcome, liquid perfection. Have you fixed the vision in your head? Good.
Welcome to Thailand.
Use this description as a mere approximation; earthly words can only clumsily describe the pleasure trove of sensations awaiting guests amongst the islands. This Southeast Asian locale isn't about shopping or cuisine ( as good as both may be). It’s a place for…just being, and being well. In paradise-nothing more matters.
The question isn't "if" to go, but "when," and consequentially, the most important information is seasonal: November to May is the best time to visit the islands off the western coast: Phuket, Phi-Phi, Hualong etc. March to October you should head offshore of the eastern coast: Koh Tao, Koh Phanghan, and Koh Samui. If you travel off-season you'll find a deal, but Thailand it is perennially so affordable that such a frugal strategy may backfire with the coming rains and monsoons with which to share your holiday. The eastern isles are cheaper and, in general, less frequented. The west is certainly more famous, more luxurious, and more costly. Compass points aside, there’s no way to go wrong with either choice, the only mistake would be not coming at all.
