Introduction to Edinburgh Edit Section - Edinburgh Travel Guide - Hotels & Restaurants

Edinburgh is Scotland's second largest city (after Glasgow) and has been the country's capitol since 1437. The city has a remarkable topography, with the Edinburgh Castle perched above the city center. The city figured prominently in the Scottish Enlightenment, incubating the groundbreaking ideas of Adam Smith and David Hume.

The Edinburgh Festival draws innumerable visitors from all over the world. The Fringe Festival in Edinburgh has now overtaken it in popularity though, becoming the largest performing arts festival in the world. Two regions of the city are UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the New Town and the Old Town.

Edinburgh is a most beautiful place it is absolutley breath taking, every time i visit i get so overwhemed with emotion it's unbelieveable.
Being at the castle for the one o'clock gun is just great.
Having walked up to nelsons column, walking round, and going up the top of nelsons column the views over the city is so beautiful although i was up there on a cloudy day but, saying that the views was just great.
Visiting the shops is good in both the old and new town the museums and galleries is a must see you can also visit Holyrood Palace and the Scottish Parliment and if you are up for it try going to the top of Arthurs seat.
And the most must see in Edinburgh for me is the statue of Greyfriars Bobby the little Skye terrier who was faithful to his master, you can also visit Greyfriars Church and Gravestones.
