Not-Too-Spooky Habitot Halloween Wear your costume to Habitot's 10th annual Habitot Halloween event, a not-too-spooky event for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. Conduct experiments and make Halloween slime to take home in our "Mad Scientist's Laboratory" and create jack-o-lantern window decorations. Shop for spiders and bugs from our ghoulish Halloween menu or build with giant "candies" in our candyland. Play miniature golf in the graveyard, make ghoulish ghosts to fly in the Ghost Cave, and from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm, listen to Halloween stories. Wednesday, October 31; 9:30 am - 1:00 pm
Car Seat Safety Check Officers from the Berkeley Police Department and other law enforcement agencies will conduct a car seat safety check on the top floor of the Allston Way Parking Garage on Allston Way between Milvia and Shattuck in downtown Berkeley. 6'3" max. car height. Inspections consistently show 4 out of 5 car seats are installed incorrectly. Parking will be validated by Habitot and other giveaways from State Farm are included. Fire Safety Day Meet a firefighter from the Berkeley Fire Department from 11:00am-12:00 pm and learn about fire safety! Make a fire truck out of recycled materials to play with in our 'little town'. Pretend to be a firefighter and sit around a campfire listening to stories about fires, fire trucks, and fire rescue. Saturday, October 20; 9:30 am - 4:30 pm
Lead Toy Collection More than 21 million toys were recalled in the last month due to concerns about lead paint, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Prevent lead poisoning and drop off your toxic toys at Habitot Children's Museum, sponsored by the City of Berkeley. Improper discarding in household garbage cans or dumpsters is unsafe for the environment as lead contaminates dumps and groundwater. Throughout the month of October

FREE Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Habitot celebrates Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) on Nov. 2. Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a traditional Mexican holiday that celebrates life and spirit. Enrique Martinez will demonstrate the art of papel picado from 10:00 am to noon. Create your own colorful papel picado and paper marigolds in our Art Studio. Decorate sugar skulls from 10:30 am - 11:30 am and listen to stories about Day of the Dead from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm. Train Week Kids love trains! Help create a giant train, make a conductor's hat, and create artwork with railroad track impressions. FREE Gingerbread House Party Young children can join in the season's spirit of giving by coming to our Gingerbread House Party and helping decorate an enormous gingerbread house with candies, cookies and other sweets that will be donated to a local family shelter.
