Ridiculously hot. Seriously. Hotter than anything you've experienced.

In the summer the temperature gets above 115ยบ F and stays there, usually higher. It's not much better at night; it's absurd. These high temperatures can be kind of a fun challenge if you've got a little bit of a masochistic streak or really like saunas and other extreme environments. But don't joke around with the water. Pack a lot and drink it often.

In the winter it's cooler and you can camp at any one of the park's campgrounds (or, really, anywhere flat (i.e. everywhere)).

Death Valley is in California, right on the Nevada border (a little bit of the park extends into Nevada). It is southeast of the Sierra Nevadas. The Valley itself is below sea level in a large basin, surrounded by mountians. This is part of the reason it's so hot. It's a half-day's drive from Los Angeles.
