| A car is essential. There's no way to do Death Valley without one. Things are very far apart from each other in Death Valley and there's no way you could carry enough water to hike the distances. Just getting in requires a car. And getting in should be carefully planned too. You need to know where you're staying and you need to bring water (for you and your radiator). Don't try to push a clunker through Death Valley. Your car needs to be reliable. The park staff is very familiar with car trouble and you can get certain minor problems fixed in the one garage here, but it will cost you. If you need to get towed out (probably to Pahrump, Nevada, the nearest city) that'll set you back $200+. |
