| San Francisco and its larger environs are definitely worth a visit. The SFMOMA is one of the (if not the) coolest art museum in California. The primordial Muir Woods, full of towering redwoods and right on the coast, is north of city over the Golden Gate Bridge. And wine country in nearby Napa and the Russian River Valley are the state's most famous spots to go tasting.
Yosemite is probably California's most famous national park. It's definitely one of the most striking: in the huge, flat, Yosemite Valley you're surrounded on all sides by giant cliffs and the waterfalls that cascade over their edges.
Los Angeles is California's other metropolis. If you come to L.A. don't bother with the Hollywood Blvd. tourist traps. Instead check out the Richard Meier-designed Getty Center, the La Brea Tar Pits or some of the city's other quirkier attractions. Disneyland is always a blast though.
