California’s largest city is an exercise in contrasts. Lush mountains spring up from endless sprawl and myriad ethnic communities live next door to the Hollywood pop culture machine. There are beaches and earthquakes, Oscars and riots, soy smoothies and smog. But uniting this incredible diversity is the California spirit of possibility. Whether it is getting that lead role or pursuing a simpler American Dream, L.A. draws in would-be stars and recent immigrants alike with the promise of abundance. While some insist the only promise L.A. delivers on is the horrible traffic, others simply choose to bask in the perennial sun.

Reviews for Los Angeles

Not all that fond of LA to be honest. The traffic is horrendous and the pollution is too. On a nice day it can be great but even to visit its incredibly hard to deal with.

LA provides the perfect demonstration of what happens when a population explodes in a region with little or no planning.  Based on how much water there is naturally in that area, there should be at most a community of 50,000, but LA has managed to siphon water from hundreds of miles away to create a city rich in all that is unnatural.  If you like endless traffic, a world where you spend more time driving than living, LA is a great place to visit. However, if you are the type that likes to be able to feel like you are living somewhat naturally, LA is a horrible place.

I agree with the first two reviews.  Although I've never visited LA with the express reason of being a tourist, from the snippets I've seen I've never been quite impressed.  It's cliche, I know, but everything just seems so fake and overrated.  I've talked to many a traveller who spent a couple days in LA and just wanted to get out -- it's overwhelmingly large without viable public transportation, it's dirty, and just not what it's cut out to be.  Idealized as the "it" place of California, LA disappoints.

Although I agree that Los Angeles is over populated and the traffic is awful, it is a fun city to visit.  I think the once you get out of the main part of Hollywood you can find a lot of things to do in Los Angeles.  For example you can find wine tasting not too far away or there's lots of great beaches in the area.
