| Just west of Napa, Sonoma Valley is another wine country, historically in the shadow of its rival to the eastt. Sonoma has classy wineries, as well as funky, bohemian-run ones that specialize in organic growing and biodynamics. The tiny Coturri Winery is worth a visit, as well as the giant Benziger. The region is full of cute towns made possible through tourism and wine. Pope Valley sits to the north of Napa and is tiny and quaint. Alexander Valley to the east, is less famous, has fewer visitors, but wineries that are just as interesting. Lake Berryessa is just 45 minutes north of Napa, San Francisco is an hour south, and Lake Tahoe lies 3 hours to the east. |
