Pacifica is a tight-knit seaside community perched on the bluffs of the California coast, just south of San Francisco. Though it was only recently named and incorporated into San Mateo County (until 1957 it was comprised of half a dozen smaller towns), it holds its own now as a beloved tourist destination -- seemingly remote, but within commuting distance of the city. Known for its rugged hiking trails, dramatic beaches, and fabulous surfing, Pacifica makes a great stop for nature lovers and athletes, and anyone else looking to grab a night in a homey beachside bed and breakfast. A typical weekend day will find surfers crowding Pacifica State Beach (also known as Linda Mar Beach), mountain bikers navigating the green hills, and fishermen dangling their poles from the piers.
