Gaslamp Quarter
This refurbished historic neighborhood has been restored to its 19th Century appearance and now features many shops, restaurants and offices. It is a bit of a tourist trap but still a nice place to stroll for a couple of hours.

This enormous outdoor park was in part build for the Panama-California Exposition in 1915 and much of the lovely landscaping is still there and many of the beautiful buildings now hold museums. You can, among other things, admire master paintings in San Diego Museum of Art, enjoy Russian religious art at Timken Museum of Art or see contemporary photography at the Museum of Photographic Arts....

Spanning over 100 acres of land in Balboa Park, San Diego Zoo is famous for its well-kept landscaping and for displaying the animals in environments that closely resembles their natural habitats.
 
Point Loma
This peninsula is located at the entrance of the harbor is a popular tourist spot that has great nature, the Cabrillo Monument and the Old Point Loma Lighthouse. Brought into use in 1855 it is one of the oldest lighthouses on the Pacific Coast. It is usually open for people to walk inside the living quarters and up the stairs to the beacon. Tijuana
The Mexican border is only 15 miles south of downtown San Diego and many people go there to stock up on beer or party without and I.D. If you are driving it is not a good idea to bring your car into Mexico since no insurance offers coverage there.
