South Lake Tahoe is the lake's biggest tourist city. It runs for about five miles on the south side of the lake. The Heavenly ski resort (Tahoe's largest) is basically in the city and there are casinos in Stateline, right across the border in Nevada.

Very nice little town along the southern coast (does it count as a coast? I guess so) of Lake Tahoe. Heavenly ski resort is right there, almost in town. I haven't spent all that much time exploring the city...it's kinda stretched out, so you just drive to where you're going (usually skiing, for me) and then drive to where you're staying.
Casinos right across the state line in, uh, Stateline, Nevada.
