Introduction to Boulder Edit Section - Boulder Travel Guide - Hotels & Restaurants

Boulder is an easygoing college town nestled in the Colorado Rockies -- lush and blooming in spring and summer, icy cold and primed for snow sports in winter. Those who live here tend to adore the great outdoors (and small wonder, considering the staggering mountain backdrop looming over every brewpub and campus building) and therefore put the health of the environment high on their priority list. Boulder doesn't allow smoking in bars and restaurants, for instance, has a great recycling program, taxes itself to protect tens of thousands of acres of land from development (thanks to the Open Space Program) and never ceases to churn out new ideas for improving public transportation and promoting the use of bikes (in 1997, the Green Bikes Program loosed 150 free loaner bikes into the city for people to use and share). Besides the quality local beers and lively hubbub of college life, Boulder also hosts festivals such as the Colorado Music Festival and Colorado Shakespeare Festival, and can't be beat for sporty fun such as rock climbing, snowboarding, and ice skating.

Leaving Boulder after college was definitely rough.  I don't think you can find a more perfect college town.  The flatirons are the perfect backdrop for the adventure driven environment.  However, if going hiking up the flatirons I would definitely suggest avoiding mid-day Saturday or Sunday as it can get very crowded.
