Introduction to Kauai Edit Section - Kauai Travel Guide - Hotels & Restaurants

If untouched tropical paradise (rainbow-kissed waterfalls, palm jungle, wafting plumeria, white sand beaches, red cliffs, leaping dolphins, and the like) is what draws you to Hawaii in the first place, then the pristine island of Kauai is your best bet. Called "the Garden island" because it's by far the least developed - there are no highrise metropolises like Honolulu or Waikiki on Kauai - this dreamboat of a place is ideal for nature lovers of all kinds. If you're dreaming of a seashell-pink resort hotel beside turquoise waters or of trekking through the winding trails and forested cliffs of the Na Pali coast, Kauai has something for you. In some areas, it is the wettest place on earth (Mt. Waialeale, or the rim of the volcanic crater that formed the island, is now shrouded in mist and boasts nearly 500 inches of rainfall a year), but just a few miles away to the west, there are almost desert conditions.
