Chances are, if you've come to Gardiner, you're not looking for big-city style partying. With the borders of Yellowstone National Park only a couple blocks away, nightlife in this lazy Montana town mostly consists of night drives up into the park to watch wildlife or go stargazing away from all the distractions of the city. In the winter, snow-covered hills and a full moon provides a great opportunity for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing to see the park and the surrounding areas in a completely new way. In the summer, the Eagle Creek campground above town becomes a popular place to hold a friendly, late-night get-togethers over bonfires and hotdogs.

And of course there is always the local bar experience, for those looking for something less outdoorsy after a day of hiking. The Blue Goose is the place for a late night drink, and on weekends and during the summer it will become quite crowded and sometimes quite rowdy. There is also the Two Bit Saloon. It features two pool tables, casino machines, and an outdoor patio. In the past, this bar has featured some live entertainment in their downstairs bar, but recently it has not been so organized. Look for it to pick up in 2008. Across the street from the Two Bit is the K-Bar, which attracts a younger local crowd. Next door is the Devil's Slide, which during the summer features a variety of live bands and ha become the place to go for live entertainment.

For a reliable location for live music, head north out of town to Chico Hot Springs, a restaurant, bar, and resort in one that has live music of all kinds every weekend and most weekdays. Its about 25 miles away, but if you're looking for a more city-like experience, its the place to go. Also, bring your bathing suit for year-round soaking in their hot pools, where the water is pumped in from a near-by natural spring. The pools are a nice spot to grab a drink and watch the steam from the hot water rise up toward the clear Montana stars.
