Introduction to New Mexico Edit Section - New Mexico Travel Guide - Hotels & Restaurants

"The Land of Enchantment," proclaim New Mexico's license plates -- and for good reason. It's hard not to be utterly enchanted by the vast mauve deserts, impressive rock formations, big brassy moons, and brilliant sunsets of this hot southwestern state. New Mexico has the largest percentage of Hispanic and Native American residents of any state in the U.S., which lends itself to unique cultural treasures, fine cuisine, and many museums, galleries, and events commemorating its tumultuous, diverse, and very much living history. The place is full of historic landmarks, scenic byways, and national monuments, and worth passing through even if that's all you're able to do on a drive cross-country. But cities like Santa Fe and Albuquerque have a lot going for them, too: old adobe churches, charming downtowns, gardens, theater, fine art, and good eats.
