New York is a state too! A distinction is usually made between upstate New York, which includes everything north of The Bronx, and "The City," the five burroughs of Manhattan. Upstate New York is dominated by forests and farmland; New York state is actually a major agricultural producer. New York City, on the other hand, is dominated by skyscrapers and teeming masses. It is the most populous city in the United States and is the country's financial, communications, and, many would say, cultural center.

Besides all the fun things to do in Manhattan there is laods to do in the rest of the state. Hudson Valley spas have been drawing luxury tourists for over a century.  Some say that the Catskills fall foliage rival Vermont. Not sure if it does, but when the colors are past peak in the Green Mountains they are just peaking in New York State. And its about an hour and a half from the city. And don't miss the Palisades Mall on the way up.

Wine country - skip Napa and spend a weekend in the finger lakes. Whitewater rafting - how about Class V on the Upper Hudson. And the Adirondacks is the size of some other whole states and mostly wild parkland. The Catskills are a bit more modest but with some of the best fishing in the US.

Its not New York City that has a big ego. Its the whole state. Just the rest of the state (called Upstate) is a bit more Republican than New York City.

SO, you can say I Love NY and not even refer to the city!
