Introduction to Asheville
Asheville is a comfortable, left-wing pocket in the middle of conservative North Carolina. It sits among the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains that bridge the border between North Carolina and Tennessee. Full of free spirits and decidedly hippie-friendly, it's easy to find organic and vegetarian health foods in Asheville as well as local cafes and bakeries with cozy armchairs, activist bookshops, discount grocery stores, and relaxed, well-designed bars and pubs. The downtown, once rundown and semi-dangerous, has polished things up quite a bit. Boutiques, unique cafes, and a variety of restaurants and bars cater to a leisure-seeking crowd.

A fun, relaxed, music and art-filled hippe town. Great cafes and restaurants; nestled in the Great Smoky Mountains.

Asheville's a great city with a great laid back atmosphere. It's also a great stop along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Make sure to check out the
Bilmore Estate.
