Nestled in the crook of the Columbia and Willamette Rivers, Portland is the epitome of a big city with a small town atmosphere. Its neighborhoody streets and bars swell with young, hip people which makes for plenty to do any day or night of the week, and one needs rarely to go far to find something going on. Besides hitting the mainstream tourist locations such as Multnomah Falls and the Rose Garden, any of the huge amount of independantly owned cafés and coffee shops give visitors a taste of Portland, and the number of good restaurants far outweigh the bad. There is plenty of recreation in the summer months, and Portland's especially got activities for rainy days covered-- many neighborhood theaters feature second run shows for $3 and serve alcohol and food, and indoor activities like rock climnbing gyms are everywhere.
