Introduction to Pennsylvania Edit Section - Pennsylvania Travel Guide - Hotels & Restaurants

Pennsylvania is home to the buzzing urban centers of Pittsburgh and Philadelphia as well as to a vast stretch of forest, mountain, and farmland throughout much of the rest of the state. Three rivers and four mountain ranges cross these western wilds, including the Appalachian and Allegheny Mountains, where not only are there some beautiful hikes, but also herds of deek and elk. As the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence were both conceived of and signed in Pennsylvania, much of that colonial history remains intact here, too -- tourists can visit many museums and historic sites devoted to the events of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Rural central Pennsylvania is also known as the "Dutch Country," where many residents, including such religious groups the Amish, Mennonites, and Brethren, live in much the same way as their ancestors did.
