Austin is one of the country's most educated cities, with a very high percentage of college graduates. It also has a reputation for being a little liberal and eccentric. It's the home of the ever-more-popular South By Southwest music and arts festival, as well as the Austin City Limits Festival.  Austin is often considered the Live Music Capital of the World.  Any night of the week you'll find a wide variety of local musicians playing at the various music venues scattered around the city.  Thanks to the active student population at the local University of Texas, Austin's nightlife is full or energy.  The city offers tons of bars and clubs, from your college hang-out to more low-key pubs and breweries, to sophisticated wine bars.  Austin also boats amazing food at any of its local restaurants, such as Chuy's, Matt's Famous El Rancho, Kerbey Lane, Magnolia Cafe, and of course Amy's IceCream.

Reviews for Austin

I LOVE AUSTIN!!!  I moved here when I was 11 yrs old and moved away at age 22, and have missed it since.  Yes, it gets hot as hell here in the summer, but Austin is such a fun, vibrant town, with great people.  If you like music, you'll be able to find all sorts of great local live music at your choice of venues, any night of the week.  The Austin City Limits tv show is based here, as is the newer Austin City Limits Music Festival which has quickly grown in popularity since it started in 2002.

People in Austin tend to be friendly and outgoing.  The University of Texas draws a wide student base, and there's always activity in the areas near campus, whether it be coffee shops (like Spiderhouse) or bars (like the now-resurrenced Hole-In-The-Wall) or late-night eateries (such as Magnolia Cafe or Kerbey Lane).

If you want to go out and party with the college kids, head out to 6th street, several blocks lined with clubs and bars.  If you want a slightly more mellow crowd, head on over to the Wharehouse District (near 4th and Lavaca) where you can have a beer at the Ginger Man, or catch dinner and a movie (or whatever other crazy events they've got that night) at Alamo Drafthouse.  Antone's is known as the local house of blues, or if you wanna dance the night away head on over to Vicci.

On a hot summer day be sure to stop by Barton Springs pool, then go to the Sno-Beach stand (off Lamar, just north of Barton Springs Rd) for a delicious sno-cone.

I could go on and on!  This is truly a great city.  It has a charm and vibe all of its own.  As I said before... I love it!
