Introduction to Burlington Edit Section - Burlington Travel Guide - Hotels & Restaurants

Burlington is a charming, fresh-faced college town alongside Lake Champlain, the lake that divides upstate New York from Vermont. The sentiment is liberal, the general populace organic-minded, friendly, and outdoorsy (nestled as the town is between the Adirondack Mountains and the Green Mountains), and most like to describe themselves as residents of one of America's most liveable cities. They aren't too far off in this statement. Burlington is pretty, well-manicured, and well-designed, with cute shops, bars, and cafes. If it's a bit small townish and sleepy, all the better, for most visitors are there to enjoy the verdant scenery (or nearby ski slopes, depending on the season). It is, however, expanding bit by bit, with taller and taller buildings emerging in the city center, and, at 38 thousand people, remains the largest city in Vermont.
